Two ways to combine documents
Combine documents in the order you choose, using a mode suited to the result you need. Original pages creates a PDF by joining existing PDF pages. Editable DOCX builds a combined Word document that you can continue editing. Add at least two files or Google Docs links, arrange the list, then combine them.
For a PDF with original pages, upload PDFs or import Google Docs by link. The imported document supplies its PDF through Google's export. Uploaded DOCX files can only be merged into an editable DOCX (beta). They do not supply an original PDF layout. If your source files are Microsoft Word documents and page fidelity matters, save them as PDFs in Word first, then upload those PDFs.
Example result
You can place a proposal first, a pricing document second and a reference appendix last. Original pages mode keeps each page's existing dimensions and content in one PDF. Move up, Move down and Remove let you adjust the queue before generating it. Editable DOCX mode combines supported text, tables and images, with each source document beginning on a new page.
What the modes preserve
Original pages does not add comment cards or a separate markup layer. Editable DOCX is a beta: original list numbering, headers, footers, footnotes and exact layout are not preserved. Suggested changes appear as accepted text in editable exports. Review the combined file before sharing it, especially if the sources contain complex tables, tracked formatting or carefully positioned images.
Questions & answers
Can I mix PDF and DOCX files?
Original pages mode accepts PDFs and linked Google Docs that can provide a PDF. Local DOCX files need Editable DOCX mode, which does not accept PDF files.
How many documents can I combine?
The current limit is 20 files and 50 MB in total, with each file no larger than 25 MB. Reduce the batch if your browser runs short of memory.
Will comments appear in the merged PDF?
Original pages uses the PDF pages supplied by the source. For comments in the margins, use the PDF with comments tool on a supported document instead.
Can I edit the merged file in Word or Google Docs?
Yes. Open the downloaded DOCX in Microsoft Word, or upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs. Check formatting after import because the editable merge does not reproduce every source feature.
