How to get a DOCX

In Microsoft Word, save a copy as .docx. For older .doc files, convert to DOCX first. In Google Docs, use File → Download → Microsoft Word (.docx). Upload the saved file here.

Use a DOCX with inserted images. Recognition reads printed text; handwriting, equations and complex tables may need manual correction.

Copy text from pictures in your document

A screenshot in a Google Doc or Word file looks like text, but its words cannot usually be selected. ExportMyDocs.com extracts the embedded picture and uses optical character recognition, or OCR, to turn those pixels into editable text. Use it for a photographed handout, a scanned letter or a screenshot of project notes.

How to extract text from Google Docs or Word images

Upload a Microsoft Word DOCX or paste a Google Docs link. If you prefer a manual export, choose File → Download → Microsoft Word (.docx) in Google Docs. The gallery checks images for text automatically. Select the language used in the pictures, then use Extract text where words were detected. Use Detect text to retry a missed caption. A progress bar shows the current image; Cancel stops the run and keeps completed results.

What you can download

Pictures with detected text can open an editable text field, Copy text button and TXT download. Download all text combines the available results with image names so you can tell where each passage came from. On the Export all page, recognize the pictures and select Image text (OCR) to include the edited text in your document ZIP.

Example result and limitations

A screenshot containing “Send the draft by Friday” becomes the same sentence in a text field. You can correct a misread letter before copying it into an email, a document or your notes. The output is plain text: original fonts, columns and table structure are not recreated. Small, blurred or rotated text can produce errors. Review names, numbers and dates carefully; handwriting and equations are not the focus of this tool.

Questions & answers

Does this work with Microsoft Word?

Yes. Upload a .docx containing inserted pictures. Save older .doc files as .docx first. The tool reads the embedded images and does not edit the original Word file or connected Google Doc.

Are my pictures sent to an AI service?

No. Text recognition runs on your device. The browser downloads the recognition engine and language files from a CDN on first use. Google Docs link imports still use the site's existing import and authorization process.

Which languages and image formats can I use?

Choose English, Russian, English with Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or Ukrainian. Supported embedded images are PNG, JPEG, WebP, BMP and GIF; GIF recognition uses the first frame.

Why is some text missing or incorrect?

OCR depends on readable image pixels and the selected language. Try a clearer source picture and check the language setting. Unsupported embedded formats must be downloaded and converted first. Results remain only in this tab, so download them before changing the document or closing it.
